Maras, Moray and Salt Mines

Maras has pre-Inca origins and is known as a tourist destination for its system of thousands of stepped salt pools where salt has been produced since pre-Inca times due to the salinization of nearby rivers. It demonstrates how andean communities sustainably and collectively took advantage of natural resources. The inhabitants of Maras extract and trade salt from these pools, characterized by its pink color.

Eight kilometers from Maras lies Moray, an Inca agricultural laboratory featuring circular terraces used for ecological and agronomic experiments through microclimate control at different terrace levels. Today, they form a unique landscape for visitors. Both locations are part of an approximately 5-hour tour through villages and natural attractions.
