The famous Rainbow Mountain displays Triassic minerals colored by erosion. The hike is approximately 3 km each way. Located in the Vilcanota Mountain Range between the districts of Cusipata and Pitumarca, southeast of Cusco, at an altitude of around 5,200 meters above sea level. Mineral sedimentation created red, green, yellow, white, and purple stripes exposed through erosion over millions of years during the Miocene epoch.
